Shopping Tips for Fashionistas

It’s been over a month since the sales started, and we’re sure by now you’ve managed to bag a few fabulous bargains along the way. But, with those ‘final reductions’ signs still flashing, there will be those who continue to browse, despite the fact there’s nothing left they really want, just to impulsively spend a fortune on a bag they wouldn’t have bought otherwise and a pair of shoes that are half a size too small.

A savvy shopper, however, will save her pennies for the fresh new season pieces that have already started to drop on the shelves.

Now, you see – while everyone else is still too preoccupied with the sales to notice - is the perfect time to hunt down those effortlessly transitional pieces - like those cool ankle boots and especially chic blazers - that will prove year-round hits.

So what should you be investing in?

1. Grey Basics
Not only does grey ooze an easy-wearing sensibility, it just so happens to be one of next season’s most prominent colour trends. So now’s a great time to start stocking up on those off-duty wardrobe staples – think lightweight knits and tees – as well as modern timeless pieces like tailored blazers, streamlined trousers and full skirts.

2. Classic Coats
When it comes to shopping between seasons, it’s all too easy to stock up on leather jackets - but why not get in early and bag a great coat instead?

From weather-proof trenches to timeless peacoats, there’s a plethora of beautiful, timeless styles waiting to be snapped up that will last you for years to come. And if you’re concerned that it’s too early to invest in outwear right now, remember: the early bird catches the sartorial worm.

3. Wear-forever Ankle Boots
Every girl worth her wardrobe has a pair of black ankle boots that work just as well off-duty as on. But how do you track down the perfect pair? Pre-autumn season: savvier shoppers snap their’s up early so they can bring them out just in time when the weather turns - plus, they work brilliantly in summer too with a feminine sundress.

4. Timeless Shirts
A good shirt will always be useful, regardless of current trends or season. Our advice? When you spot a beautiful silk blouse, or an immaculately constructed cotton shirt, invest immediately. Wear them now under sundresses for a smarter summer look, and team them with everything from jeans to full skirts in early autumn. Whether worn alone or used as a layering tool, they’re the ultimate wardrobe workhorse.

5. New Classic Bags
When it comes to bags, the trick is recognising the new must-have styles that will become cult modern classics. Keep an eye out for less ubiquitous colours, too, that feel far less obvious and understated.

Look out for Michael Kors‘s new Brompton Mini satchel - it’s classic shape and considered size is elegantly effortless - as well as the Drew by Chloe,  Fendi’s By The Way tote, and Proenza Schouler‘s Buckle to get in on the action early.
